STREE Power: Motovolt's E-Cycles Drive Rural Entrepreneurship

Electric vehicle manufacturer Motovolt Mobility has won a contract from Convergence Energy Services Ltd (CESL) to supply electric bicycles under the ‘Sustainable Transport for Rural Entrepreneurs through Electric Cycles’ (STREE) project.

Launched by CESL in collaboration with the Union Ministry of Rural Development, the initiative aims to provide 1,800 cargo e-bicycles to rural women entrepreneurs across Bihar, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, and Andhra Pradesh. CESL, a subsidiary of Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL) under the Union Ministry of Power, is spearheading the programme to promote sustainable mobility in underserved regions.

As part of the project, Motovolt will supply specially designed cargo e-cycles tailored for rural applications. The company will also support CESL in training women self-help groups (SHGs), equipping them with the skills to effectively use e-cycles and enhance their livelihoods.

“This initiative is about creating opportunities for rural women and entrepreneurs, improving their mobility, and fostering economic growth through clean, green solutions,” said Tushar Choudhary, Founder and CEO of Motovolt Mobility. “Empowering communities with electric mobility is a powerful way to drive change and sustainability at the grassroots level.”

Beyond transportation, the project also aims to raise awareness about electric vehicles and build local capacity for e-mobility. Motovolt will further assist CESL in outreach efforts through State Rural Livelihood Missions, ensuring effective programme implementation.
