Honda Cars India has announced plans to strengthen its product portfolio with a range of new sedans and sport utility vehicles (SUVs), including compact SUVs, featuring multiple powertrain options such as flex-fuel and electric vehicles (EVs), in response to evolving market trends and consumer demand.
The automaker aims to introduce 10 new products by 2030, with six models expected to be launched during the current financial year, according to senior company officials. However, the company clarified that it does not intend to re-enter the hatchback segment in India, with the Honda Amaze continuing as its entry-level offering in the domestic market.
“We are looking at all the possibilities for the future and always consider every option. For us, the small car is the Amaze, and we are also evaluating a sub-4-metre SUV for the Indian market. Our primary focus remains the domestic market, while exports are secondary,” said Takashi Nakajima.
The company’s strategy comes amid growing industry focus on expanding SUV portfolios and adopting alternative fuel technologies to meet changing customer preferences and increasingly stringent emission regulations in India.
