M&M Unveils Upgraded Automotive Design Studio in Mumbai

Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) has significantly enhanced its automotive design capabilities at its Mumbai plant to accelerate product development across its passenger and commercial vehicle segments.

The upgraded design studio, which was initially launched in 2015, was officially unveiled on 07 April 2025. The newly enhanced facility now boasts advanced technologies and an expanded workforce, which has doubled to 100 employees. Among the key upgrades is a state-of-the-art milling machine capable of transforming digital sketches into full-scale clay models, alongside an in-house paint shop. These advancements are expected to help Mahindra expand its SUV portfolio, expedite electric vehicle development, and reduce the time from concept to commercial launch.

The Mumbai design studio complements Mahindra’s UK-based design centre, which focuses primarily on electric vehicle innovation. Additionally, the company is exploring ways to integrate artificial intelligence into its design processes to improve both speed and quality of execution.

According to Pratap Bose, Chief Design and Creative Officer at M&M, “The new studio will attract the best design talent from India and become a leading automotive design centre in India. The influence of the design studio on our products will be felt for many years to come.”

With these enhanced design capabilities and a growing emphasis on electric mobility, Mahindra is positioning itself to gain a competitive advantage in both domestic and international automotive markets.
