Powering the Rhino: Ampvolts’ 17-Hub Leap for Electric Freight

Ampvolts Limited has unveiled plans to set up and operate 17 high-capacity EV charging hubs across key industrial and logistics corridors in Western India, in partnership with Cholamandalam Leasing Limited.

The infrastructure will support the rollout of Montra Electric RHINO 5538 electric trucks, enabling long-haul electric freight movement at scale. The initiative is designed to tackle a major barrier in heavy-duty EV adoption—access to reliable, high-capacity charging for long-distance trucking.

Montra Electric’s Managing Director, Jalaj Gupta, described the project as a milestone in green freight mobility, noting that it will form India’s first operational long-haul green freight corridor.

Strategically located along major freight routes, the 17 charging hubs will cater to multiple fleet operators and logistics providers. Backed by over 18 months of operational experience, Ampvolts aims to ensure seamless electric truck movement, improved fleet efficiency, and reduced operational uncertainty.

The initiative is also expected to help corporates meet sustainability goals by reducing Scope-3 emissions, lowering dependence on fossil fuels, and improving uptime for fleet operators while addressing range anxiety.

Ampvolts leadership emphasized its focus on building a scalable electric freight ecosystem, with plans to execute the project rapidly and potentially set a benchmark for EV charging infrastructure deployment in India.

The company estimates the project could cut around 650,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually. It comes amid strong growth projections for India’s electric truck segment, supported by government initiatives such as PM E-DRIVE and FAME II.

Ecosystem partners, including Montra Electric and VerdeMobility, will provide fleet lifecycle support and advanced charging solutions, ensuring operational efficiency and future scalability.
