Tata Makes Big Push in EVs: Production Begins at Sanand Plant in April

Tata Motors is gearing up to kick off electric vehicle (EV) production at its Sanand plant in Gujarat, starting from April of this year. In January 2023, Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, a subsidiary of Tata Motors, acquired the facility from Ford India at a cost of Rs 725.7 crore.

Initial production will focus on the Nexon EV, with subsequent plans to introduce the Curvv EV and Harrier EV. The anticipated launch of the Curvv EV is projected for the second or third quarter of this calendar year. Additionally, there are plans to unveil the Harrier EV and an internal combustion engine (ICE) version of the Curvv towards the latter part of the year.

Notably, the company has already initiated the production of internal combustion engine-powered variants of the Nexon. The Sanand plant boasts a production capacity of three lakh units per annum, with the potential for expansion to 4.2 lakh units per annum.

Tata Motors is strategically positioning itself for robust growth, outpacing industry benchmarks, with a series of planned launches in the pipeline.
