Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), a subsidiary of Tata Motors, will commence completely knocked down (CKD) vehicle assembly at its Ranipet facility in Tamil Nadu starting early 2026. Approved in September 2024, the Panapakkam-based plant will have an annual production capacity of over 2.5 lakh units.
Tata Motors has committed ₹9,000 crore to this project. Group CFO PB Balaji noted that the move aims to offset demand pressures by activating stable markets such as the UK and Europe while optimising manufacturing timelines.
The company also plans a phased shift of CKD operations from Pune to Ranipet, aligning with JLR’s long-term strategy to enhance cost efficiency and capacity utilisation ahead of 2030.
