Balrampur Chini Mills (BCML) expects to commission its new Polylactic Acid (PLA) plant in the second half of FY 2026–27 (with components targeting late 2026), marking a major step in its strategy to diversify into bio-based materials.
According to its Integrated Annual Report 2025–26, the company expects the PLA facility to become operational in H2 FY27. The project represents a significant strategic milestone, complementing BCML’s focus on disciplined cane development, improved recovery management, optimised distillery utilisation, and cost efficiency. The company currently operates distilleries at multiple locations, including Balrampur and Maizapur, with a combined capacity of 1,050 KLPD.
BCML has also developed substantial cogeneration capacity across its production sites, with a total saleable capacity of 175.7 MW. Around 56% of this capacity met internal requirements during FY 2025–26, while the remaining power was supplied to the Uttar Pradesh grid and through Open Access.
