Pipeline Update: 45% Complete for Tripura–Mizoram Gas Link

Mizoram’s Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Minister, B Lalchhanzova, visited Agartala to review the progress of the Tripura–Mizoram Natural Gas Pipeline Project and to study best practices in natural gas utilisation.

During the visit, the Minister held discussions with senior officials of Tripura Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (TNGCL) to understand how Tripura deploys natural gas across domestic, commercial, industrial, and transport sectors. He also toured several gas-based facilities, including PRAN Beverages, compressed natural gas (CNG) stations, and installations operated by ONGC. The 119.5-kilometre pipeline, which forms part of the North East Natural Gas Pipeline Grid, is scheduled for completion by December 2027, with around 45 per cent of the work already completed. The Minister urged the implementing agencies to maintain momentum and ensure timely and successful execution of the project.

B Lalchhanzova noted that the visit was intended to assess Tripura’s efficient natural gas utilisation model and explore its applicability in Mizoram to promote cleaner and more affordable energy. “Piped natural gas can offer safer, cleaner, and cost-effective cooking fuel for households while also supporting growth in commercial, industrial, and transport sectors,” he said.
