Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi has inaugurated a 240 TPD biomass pellet plant in Rewari, Haryana, marking a significant milestone in the state’s clean energy transition.
The facility will process agricultural residues such as paddy straw and cotton stalks into biomass pellets for co-firing in thermal power plants. This aligns with the Government of India’s mandate requiring biomass co-firing—5% nationally and 7% in the Delhi-NCR region.
Minister Joshi noted that the project supports India’s broader renewable energy objectives by lowering carbon emissions and generating rural employment. He added that half of the biomass used in the NCR will be sourced from local paddy residue, helping to curb stubble burning. “This plant is a crucial step towards realizing Prime Minister Modi’s vision of a sustainable and energy-secure future,” he said.
