Essar's UGEL to Invest ₹900 Crore in 100-Station LNG Network

Ultra Gas & Energy Ltd. (UGEL), a subsidiary of the Essar Group, is set to invest ₹900 crore to expand its liquefied natural gas (LNG) retail network to 100 outlets across India, supporting the nation’s transition to cleaner fuels in long-haul transportation.

UGEL currently operates six LNG stations across Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu, strategically located near industrial and logistics hubs to ensure reliable LNG access. Designed as multi-fuel hubs, these stations also feature electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure. Each outlet is capable of dispensing up to 50 tonnes of LNG per month, refuelling approximately 600 trucks and potentially cutting carbon emissions by 66,000 tonnes annually.

To secure uninterrupted LNG supply, UGEL has partnered with major energy players such as Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL), GAIL, and Hindustan Petroleum (HPCL). Expansion efforts are currently underway in 10+ states, including Odisha, Punjab, and Jharkhand.

With this initiative, UGEL aims to play a pivotal role in decarbonising the logistics sector, promoting sustainable mobility, and facilitating the transition of commercial fleets from diesel to LNG across India.
