Reliance Industries has commenced its Rs 65,000 crore investment in a compressed bio-gas (CBG) hub in Andhra Pradesh, starting with an integrated CBG plant near Divakarapalli village in Kanigiri. The foundation stone for the project was laid by the Minister for Education and IT, Nara Lokesh.
Developed by Reliance New Energy, the Rs 139-crore facility covers 475 acres and has a production capacity of 100 tonnes. Reliance aims to set up 500 CBG plants across the state, utilizing 5,00,000 acres of barren and waste lands in the districts of Prakasam, Anantapur, Chittoor, and Kadapa.
The plants will use Napier grass to produce four million tonnes of green CBG and 1.1 million tonnes of organic fertilizer annually. This initiative is designed to support rural farmers by offering lease payments and fixed-price contracts for Napier grass, while also generating employment opportunities for around 2,50,000 people.
