JSPL Makes History: Angul Hot Strip Mill Marks a New Chapter in Indian Steel

Jindal Steel & Power (JSPL) has successfully inaugurated its state-of-the-art six million tpa hot strip mill at the steel manufacturing facility in Angul, Odisha. This strategic development marks JSPL's entry into the flat products market.

The mill, completed in a remarkable 29-month timeframe, commenced operations with the production of the first set of coils on January 10, 2024, followed by their dispatch on January 15, 2024. Boasting advanced features such as transfer bar cooling, edge heater, coil box, and heat shields, the hot strip mill (HSM) is capable of producing high-quality coils with dimensions of 1.00 mm thickness and 1,680 mm width. These coils exhibit superior flatness, uniform mechanical properties, and the capability to produce premium value-added grades. With applications spanning across automotive, construction, oil, downstream cold rolling, and other sectors, the commissioning of the HSM positions the company favorably to meet the diverse needs of these industries.

In parallel, Jindal Steel & Power is undergoing a substantial expansion of its integrated steel plant capacity, increasing it from six million tpa to an impressive 25.2 million tpa in Kerjang village, Chhendipada, Angul district, Odisha. The expansion initiative also encompasses the development of a 36-million tpa underground slurry pipeline in three phases and the establishment of a 12.5 million-tpa cement plant. This comprehensive expansion plan underscores JSPL's commitment to fortifying its position in the steel industry and diversifying its portfolio to include other critical sectors.
