The ₹123 Crore Transformation: Bihar Niwas Goes Modern

The Bihar government’s Building Construction Department is proceeding with plans to demolish the existing Bihar Niwas in New Delhi and construct a larger, modern replacement.

Demolition work is scheduled to begin later this month. The proposed nine-storey structure, planned in a 2B+G+6 configuration, will offer nearly three times the built-up area of the current five-storey building. The ₹123 crore project is progressing as scheduled, with tenders already awarded.

Located near the Central Secretariat, Bihar Niwas has served as office space and transit accommodation for Bihar government officials and dignitaries since its inauguration in 1994. Confirming the development, a government official stated that the project is moving ahead as planned.
