Waste Not, Want Not: Ludhiana's New C&D Facility

The Ludhiana Municipal Corporation is set to inaugurate a long-awaited Construction and Demolition (C&D) Waste Plant in Dhandhari, marking a significant step toward sustainable urban waste management. Initially conceived under the Smart City Mission, the project was later shifted to the Swachh Bharat Mission due to structural revisions and rising costs.

Originally estimated at ₹2.69 crore, the project's cost rose after the selected site was identified as a former dumpsite, necessitating additional work such as trash removal and the construction of support pillars. The project was eventually tendered at ₹7.30 crore, with an additional ₹2.20 crore allocated for machinery under the Smart City Mission. The facility will have a processing capacity of 100 tonnes of construction waste per day, converting it into reusable materials like tiles.

In parallel, two major civic infrastructure projects are nearing completion: a ₹5.82 crore all-weather swimming pool near Rakh Bagh and a ₹14.38 crore basketball court at Guru Nanak Stadium. Both initiatives aim to enhance Ludhiana’s sports infrastructure and overall quality of life for residents.
