Chennai Metro Renovate Two Stations: Get Ready for a Smoother Ride!

Chennai Metro Rail (CMRL) is set to initiate a comprehensive assessment for the enhancement of two MRTS stations within the city in the coming months. The targeted stations for improvement are Thirumayilai and Tiruvallikeni MRTS stations, aiming to enhance the overall experience for commuters.

The ongoing efforts involve the identification of a suitable agency to conduct a thorough study, evaluating existing facilities at these stations. The study will encompass the modernization aspects, estimated costs, and a detailed execution plan for the enhancement work. The scope of improvements spans across all passenger facilities, addressing security enhancements and overall maintenance.

Recently, the decision was formalized for CMRL to assume control of MRTS operations following the conclusive agreement between Southern Railway and the Tamil Nadu government.

The selection of Thirumayilai and Tiruvallikeni stations is strategic, considering their locations and footfall. The proximity of Tiruvallikeni MRTS station to Marina beach adds significance, while Thirumayilai, being a crucial hub with an upcoming Chennai Metro Rail station in the phase-II project, presents an opportunity for integration with the MRTS station. The upgrade of Thirumayilai MRTS station aligns with the city's focus on enhancing connectivity, particularly in the Mylapore region, making it a convenient and efficient multi-modal transit option for commuters.
