The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has initiated a comprehensive infrastructure upgrade for the road corridor along Metro Line 3, spanning from Maan (depot) in Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar.
The project aims to convert the 50-km stretch (25 km in each direction) into a durable cement-concrete (CC) road, supported by a full suite of road-related infrastructure and public amenities. Key components include parking lanes, bus bays, lay-bys, medians, utility ducts, improved pedestrian facilities, beautification, utility relocation, and electrification.
According to Umesh Mallawat, Executive Engineer at PMRDA, tenders have been issued to appoint consultants who will prepare the detailed project report (DPR), design the road layout, manage the bid process, oversee construction, and provide post-construction support. The selected consultant will also conduct detailed surveys, drainage planning, and coordinate utilities across agencies. The design phase is expected to last four months.
Before the main road construction begins, the existing Metro Line 3 contractor will make the stretch motorable to ensure uninterrupted access. The upgrade is part of PMRDA’s broader effort to improve surface-level mobility along the elevated metro corridor and address increasing traffic volumes. A pre-bid meeting is scheduled for 24 July 2025.
The initiative is expected to enhance last-mile connectivity and improve commuter experience across the growing metro region.
