Adani Group has announced a substantial investment of Rs 50,000 crore over the next decade to establish a cutting-edge one GW data center in Maharashtra. The flagship company, Adani Enterprises, formalized this commitment through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Maharashtra government on January 17, 2024. The signing ceremony took place during the World Economic Forum 2024 in Davos and was attended by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani.
In addition to the significant financial investment, the Group plans to make deemed distribution investments to fuel the development of the proposed data center infrastructure. Strategically located in key areas like Mumbai or Navi Mumbai and Pune, the data center will be powered entirely by renewable energy sources. This initiative is poised to significantly contribute to the state's green energy ecosystem while creating direct and indirect employment opportunities for 20,000 individuals.
Recognizing the economic and social benefits of the proposed hyperscale project, the Maharashtra government, committed to fostering information technology-related infrastructure and services, has welcomed and endorsed this venture. Such mega projects not only bolster Mumbai's renewable energy initiatives but also align seamlessly with sustainability goals, showcasing a commitment to environmental responsibility.
