Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) has established two 100-bed hospitals at the Amarnath base camps in Kashmir, coinciding with the commencement of the 52-day pilgrimage starting from the twin tracks. Pilgrims can take the traditional 48-km Nunwan-Pahalgam route in Anantnag or the 14-km shorter but steeper Baltal route in Ganderbal. The yatra is set to begin on 19 August, 2024.
Teaming up with the health and medical education department, ONGC has significantly bolstered the healthcare infrastructure in the region. Under its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative, ONGC constructed permanent hospitals at Baltal and Chandanwari-Pahalgam in Anantnag, ensuring these facilities are well-prepared to serve the needs of pilgrims and locals alike.
Each hospital is equipped with 100 beds, lodging facilities for medical staff, and intensive care units. These hospitals are designed to function as primary health centres, providing essential medical services not only during the pilgrimage but also for the local communities throughout the year. This continuous operation will be overseen by the health department, ensuring long-term healthcare support.
The establishment of these hospitals highlights ONGC’s commitment to sustainable development and enhanced public health services. This initiative marks a pivotal advancement towards improving healthcare accessibility, reducing operational costs, and ensuring continuous medical support for the local population for years to come.
