Knowledge Marine & Engineering Works Limited (KMEW), through its subsidiary Knowledge Shipyard Private Limited (KSPL), has been awarded a ₹66.11 crore contract by the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) for the design, construction, supply, testing, and commissioning of 10 hybrid electric passenger ferries.
As the lead consortium partner, KSPL will build the ferries, each with a capacity of 20 passengers. The vessels are expected to be delivered within 10 months, followed by a five-year maintenance commitment. This contract represents KSPL’s first third-party commercial shipbuilding project and aligns with the Government of India’s initiative to promote environmentally sustainable inland water transportation.
