GE Vernova T&D India has been named the lowest bidder (L1) by the Power Grid Corporation of India for a major transmission infrastructure contract to design and establish a 6,000 MW, ±800 kV High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) terminal station project.
The scope of work involves executing two 3,000 MW terminal stations utilizing line-commutated converter (LCC) technology. This high-capacity transmission system is designed to evacuate renewable power from Barmer II in Rajasthan to South Kalamb in Maharashtra, supporting the stable transmission of clean energy to high-demand consumption hubs. GE Vernova T&D India has indicated that the multi-year assignment encompasses the complete design, supply, and execution of the converter stations.
Initially approved by the National Committee on Transmission in May 2025, the 6 GW, 800 kV corridor forms a key component of India's strategic expansion of interstate renewable energy transmission infrastructure.
