Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL) has received a Letter of Intent (LoI) for the development of an interstate transmission system (ISTS) project in Karnataka.
The project has been awarded under the tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) route, with PGCIL emerging as the successful bidder. Titled “Transmission System Strengthening at Tumkur-II for Integration of Additional Renewable Energy (2.7 GW),” the project aims to enhance infrastructure at the Tumkur-II Pooling Station.
The scope includes the installation of six 400/220 kV, 1×500 MVA interconnecting transformers, along with the construction of a 400 kV double-circuit transmission line connecting the Tumkur-II pooling station to the Madhugiri substation, covering a distance of approximately 100 km. The project is estimated to cost ₹1,051 crore and is expected to be completed within 24 months.
The project will be implemented through Tumkur II RE Transmission SPV, a subsidiary of REC Power Development & Consultancy.
