KWA & Suez: Partnering for Pure Water in Kochi

The Kerala Water Authority (KWA), under the Kerala Urban Water Services Improvement Programme (KUWSIP), has awarded a 10-year contract to Suez for the upgrade, operation, and maintenance of the water supply system in Kochi City.

Jointly funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Government of Kerala, the project will cover a 95 sq. km area within the Kochi Municipal Corporation, aiming to benefit approximately 700,000 residents. The scope includes the installation of 1,46,500 new service connections, replacement of aging pipelines, and the implementation of a 24x7 pressurised water supply system. The project also targets a reduction in non-revenue water (NRW) losses to 20%, aligning with national benchmarks.

To enhance operational efficiency, Suez will implement advanced technologies such as remote water meter reading for industrial and commercial consumers, real-time monitoring through the RoPES platform, and SCADA-based system controls.
