Maharashtra's Mega-Watt Boost: HCC-Tata JV Secures ₹2,470 Crore Contract

Hindustan Construction Company (HCC) and Tata Projects (TPL), in a 50:50 joint venture, have secured a ₹2,470 crore contract from Tata Power Company for the construction of the Bhivpuri Off-Stream Open-Loop Pumped Storage Project (PSP) in Karjat, Maharashtra.

The 1,000 MW project comprises two 333 MW units and two 167 MW units. The scope of work includes civil and hydro-mechanical (H&M) components such as a coffer dam, intake structures, head race tunnels, penstock, surge shaft, powerhouse, tail race tunnel, and a lower reservoir featuring a GFRD dam. Additional infrastructure work includes roads, drainage systems, and other essential facilities. The contract also covers the review and interface of electro-mechanical components required for project completion.

HCC, which has contributed to nearly 26% of India’s installed hydropower capacity, is currently executing five hydroelectric power projects, including the 1,000 MW Tehri pumped storage system in Uttarakhand.
