Adani Green wins $6 billion solar contract

Adani Green Energy has secured a major solar contract from the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) to develop 8 GW of projects valued at ₹45,000 crore ($6 billion). This contract includes establishing an additional 2 GW of solar cell and module manufacturing capacity. This win boosts Adani Green's total capacity to 15 GW, with plans to reach 25 GW by 2025 through an investment of ₹1.12 trillion ($15 billion) in renewable energy.

Gautam Adani, chairman of Adani Group, emphasized the dual objectives of economic development and decarbonization, highlighting India's commitment to leading the climate change revolution as promised at the 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference. The awarded projects will be implemented over five years, with the first 2 GW of capacity online by 2022 and the remaining 6 GW added in 2 GW annual increments by 2025.

The projects will span various locations, including a significant 2 GW single-site generation project. The additional solar cell and module manufacturing capacity will be operational by 2022, enhancing the group's position as India's largest solar manufacturing facility with a total capacity of 3.3 GW.
