Paswan Opens IIT-Tirupati Food Incubation Centre

Union Minister for Food Processing Industries, Chirag Paswan, virtually inaugurated the Common Incubation Centre (CIC) at IIT-Tirupati on July 17, 2025. The initiative is aimed at fostering entrepreneurship and supporting start-ups in the food processing sector, with a special focus on the Chittoor and Tirupati regions.

The CIC is designed to assist rural entrepreneurs and emerging ventures in adding value to regionally abundant agricultural produce such as tomatoes and mangoes. Speaking at the event, Prof. K.N. Satyanarayana, Director of IIT-Tirupati, said, “The incubation centre was designed to cater to the needs of rural entrepreneurs and start-ups in the food processing domain,” emphasizing its potential to drive local economic development.

The project has received total funding of ₹3.95 crore—₹2.75 crore from the Union Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) and ₹1.20 crore from IIT-Tirupati’s internal resources. An additional ₹60 lakh is needed to complete the facility and equip it for full-scale operations.

In his keynote address, Minister Chirag Paswan commended IIT-Tirupati’s efforts and reaffirmed the Union Government’s commitment to promoting value addition and entrepreneurship in the food processing industry.
