Karnataka Opens Dam Gates: Farmers Get Green Light for Cultivation!

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has directed officials to release water from dams to enable farmers to begin cultivation. Speaking at the KRS Dam near Mysuru after offering baagina to the River Cauvery, he stressed the importance of timely water release through canals to support agricultural activity.

The Chief Minister noted that Karnataka has already released 42 TMC of water to Tamil Nadu, significantly exceeding the 9.1 TMC required for June under the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal order. This, he said, ensures there will be no objections from Tamil Nadu regarding Karnataka's irrigation needs.

He also highlighted the state government’s ongoing support for the agricultural sector, pointing out that:

Rs 25,000 crore has been allocated to the Water Resources Department (WRD),

Rs 19,000 crore provided in pumpset subsidies, and

An additional Rs 3,000 crore announced for the Cauvery Neeravari Nigam.

These measures, he said, are part of a broader commitment to strengthen irrigation infrastructure and support farmers across the state.
