Hindustan Zinc's ₹1,700-Cr Plant to Boost India's Agri-Reliance

Hindustan Zinc (HZL), a Vedanta Group company, is set to launch its ₹1,700-crore fertiliser plant in Rajasthan by December 2026, aimed at reducing India’s reliance on imported diammonium phosphate (DAP).

Speaking at the FT Live Energy Transition Summit India, CEO Arun Misra said,

“The fertiliser plant is under construction now, and we see it coming up by December 2026.”

The plant will produce DAP and NPK fertilisers, supporting the government’s push for self-reliance in agri-inputs. The project’s first phase, which includes a phosphoric acid unit, is expected to become operational by March–April 2026, followed by DAP production.

This strategic initiative is designed to meet India’s growing fertiliser demand, particularly in light of the country’s current dependence on DAP imports.
