Grainspan Nutrients has invested ₹520 crore to establish two grain-based ethanol plants in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, under the Union Food Ministry’s interest subsidy scheme. Utilizing maize and rice as feedstock, the plants have a combined installed capacity of 350 kilolitres per day (KLPD), supplying ethanol to oil marketing companies under the Ethanol Blending Programme.
The first plant, commissioned in May 2023 at Bhamsara Village, was Gujarat’s first grain-based ethanol facility. With a capacity of 110 KLPD, it was built with a ₹120 crore loan and central subsidy support. Following its success, a second plant—also located at Bhamsara—was launched in May 2025 with a capacity of 240 KLPD, built at a cost of ₹360 crore without subsidy.
CEO Manoj Khandelwal noted the significant growth potential in India’s ethanol sector, including future export opportunities. Since its founding in 2014 as a food ingredients company, Grainspan has expanded into ethanol production, boosting its turnover to ₹760 crore in the last fiscal year. CFO Pankit Shah confirmed that both ethanol plants are now fully operational.
