Karnataka's Green Tech Revolution: ₹95 Crore Horticulture Boost

Karnataka will roll out the Comprehensive Horticulture Development Scheme – 2.0 with a budget of ₹95 crore for the financial year 2025-26. This initiative aims to introduce technological advancements in horticulture to enhance farmers' productivity and income, as announced by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in the state budget.

Technological Support for Farmers:-

A Knowledge Cell will be established in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology and private partners. This will provide real-time data on crop production, health, and market trends using satellite and modern technologies.

A Seed Bank will be set up to conserve 20 GI-tagged and indigenous crops that are at risk of extinction.

Research & Financial Assistance:-

     Byadagi Chilli Protection: Research and conservation efforts will focus on protecting Byadagi chilli from leaf-curl disease, thrips, and other      threats.

    Micro Irrigation Support: ₹426 crore has been allocated to benefit 52,000 farmers under the micro-irrigation scheme.

    Areca Nut Disease Control: ₹62 crore will support 2 lakh areca nut growers in the Malenadu region affected by leaf spot disease.

    Coconut Pest Control: A scientific survey will be conducted to assess black-headed caterpillar infestation in coconut farms, followed by           targeted plant protection measures.

Boosting Organic & Millet Farming:-

To promote organic and millet cultivation, Karnataka will establish an Organic and Millet Hub with an investment of ₹20 crore. This hub will help bridge the supply-demand gap and improve market access for farmers.
