Odisha's Grain to Spirit: Indalc Spirits' Sustainable Distillery Project

Indalco Spirits Private Limited is set to make a significant entry into the ethanol market with its ambitious project in Dhenkanal, Odisha. The project encompasses a grain-based distillery unit coupled with a co-generation power plant, representing a ₹107 crore investment aimed at producing 100 KLPD of alcohol, presumed to be ethanol, and generating 3 MW of power. This venture is strategically positioned in Saptasajya Village, leveraging the area’s agricultural outputs and contributing to India's ethanol production capacity, which is crucial for the country's biofuel strategy.

The inclusion of a co-generation power plant within this project highlights an innovative approach to sustainable energy use. By utilizing bagasse, a by-product of the ethanol production process, the plant aims to generate renewable energy. This not only helps in reducing the operational reliance on the traditional power grid but also aligns with global environmental sustainability goals by lowering the carbon footprint of the production process. Such initiatives are key in promoting cleaner, more sustainable industrial practices.

This project is poised to deliver significant economic benefits to the local community in Dhenkanal. The construction and operational phases of the distillery and power plant are expected to create numerous job opportunities, directly and indirectly boosting the local economy. Furthermore, the demand for grains as raw materials for the ethanol production process could open new markets for local farmers, ensuring a steady income stream and fostering agricultural development in the region.
