The Morna Makeover: Modernizing UP’s Sugar Heartland

The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet has approved the establishment of a new sugar plant at the Ganga Kisan Cooperative Sugar Mill in Morna, Muzaffarnagar. The project aims to modernize the existing facility by replacing outdated machinery and technology that have been causing technical losses.

In the first phase, the mill’s crushing capacity will be increased from 2,500 tonnes per day (TCD) to 3,500 TCD, with a further expansion planned to 5,000 TCD. The new plant, based on advanced technology, is expected to operate more efficiently and improve overall profitability.

The Cabinet said the decision would bring significant benefits to sugarcane farmers in the Morna region by boosting production, ensuring timely payments, and helping to double farmers’ income. The move is seen as a major boost to the sugar sector in western Uttar Pradesh.
