₹500 Crore Luxury Leap: Dakshina Kannada’s Five-Star Revolution

The Dakshina Kannada coast is poised for a major expansion in its hospitality sector, with a ₹500 crore investment planned for the development of four new five-star hotels.

Supported by a mix of local and external investors, the initiative seeks to address the region’s long-standing shortage of premium accommodation. At present, many tourists arriving at Mangaluru International Airport opt to travel to Kerala or Kodagu due to the limited availability of luxury hotels in the area. One of the five-star properties is already under construction in Gurupura, while another has been proposed at Kuloor.

The projects are expected to be completed within the next two years and are anticipated to significantly enhance the region’s attractiveness as both a tourism and business destination. Industry stakeholders, especially from the IT sector, have consistently highlighted the absence of five-star hotels as a key concern.

A senior official from the Tourism Department said the addition of premium hospitality properties would help draw more visitors to the region, contributing to tourism growth and broader local development.
