Vivek Kumar Sharma recently conducted a high-level review of the M&R Complex operated by National Aluminium Company Limited in Koraput.
The visit highlighted the Indian government’s focus on strengthening domestic aluminium production while ensuring industrial expansion aligns with long-term sustainability objectives. Accompanied by NALCO’s senior technical leadership, the delegation reviewed the progress of ongoing expansion projects and the adoption of modern technologies aimed at improving operational efficiency.
The planned expansion of the Koraput refinery and mining operations is intended to stabilise domestic supply chains and meet rising demand from sectors such as infrastructure, renewable energy and manufacturing. The initiative also forms part of India’s broader minerals and metals strategy to reduce import dependence.
In addition to boosting industrial output, the expansion of the M&R Complex is expected to support regional economic development in Odisha by generating local opportunities while maintaining environmental sustainability standards.
