Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Friday inaugurated a series of development initiatives worth ₹737.88 crore in Ramanathapuram district and distributed government welfare assistance amounting to ₹4,268 crore to 50,752 beneficiaries.
At a public function held in Peravoor near Ramanathapuram, the Chief Minister inaugurated the newly constructed bus stand, spread across 16,909 sq. ft., built at a cost of ₹20 crore. The project began in 2023 as part of the district’s infrastructure improvement efforts. In addition to the bus stand, Stalin also inaugurated several completed infrastructure projects and laid foundation stones for upcoming works aimed at enhancing public amenities across the region. The event was attended by state ministers, Members of Parliament, and MLAs.
Earlier in the week, Stalin visited the upgraded Tholkappia Poonga Eco Park in Raja Annamalaipuram, Chennai. The ₹42.45 crore redevelopment was undertaken by the Chennai Rivers Restoration Trust (CRRT) under the Department of Municipal Administration and Water Supply. The revitalisation includes a new entrance gateway, watchtower, visitor gallery, children’s play area, landscaped walkways, food court, open-air theatre, and CCTV surveillance, among other modern features.
Originally developed in 2008 and opened to the public in 2011 by former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, Tholkappia Poonga had deteriorated over the years. Following directives from CM Stalin, CRRT prepared a comprehensive redevelopment plan in 2021 to restore the park for public enjoyment.
During his visit, Stalin planted a Kondrai sapling and directed officials to open the upgraded eco park to the public at the earliest.
This series of project inaugurations and welfare disbursements underscores the Tamil Nadu government’s sustained focus on regional development and inclusive social welfare.
