The Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has achieved a major technological milestone at its Bokaro Steel Plant, successfully producing a special grade of electrical steel for the first time.
This newly developed material is tailored for use in electric motors, generators, small power transformers, and electrical appliances, and is designed to enhance energy efficiency while reducing operational losses. The 0.5 mm thick IS 18316 LS Grade non-grain oriented (NGO) electrical steel features improved ductility and superior magnetic properties, making it particularly suited for hybrid and electric vehicle (EV) applications.
The breakthrough was achieved through precision-controlled manufacturing techniques, balancing low carbon content for enhanced ductility with high silicon content for superior magnetic performance.
This development marks a significant step forward in SAIL’s product innovation capabilities and strengthens its presence across the power, automotive, and renewable energy sectors.
