Jindal Steels into Odisha with ₹15,000 Crore Expansion

The BC Jindal Group has unveiled plans to establish a greenfield downstream steel manufacturing facility in Odisha, with a total investment commitment of ₹15,000 crore. The project will be implemented by its wholly-owned subsidiary, Jindal India Steel Tech Ltd. (JISTL), in three phases, targeted for completion by 2030.

Phase one, with an investment of ₹2,500 crore, will focus on producing specialized coated steel products through advanced units such as a Cold Rolling Mill (CRM), Continuous Galvanizing Line (CGL), and Colour Coating Line (CCL). The initial phase is expected to achieve an annual capacity of 9.6 lakh tonnes by 2027.

At full capacity, the facility’s flat steel product division will scale up to 30 lakh tonnes per annum, complemented by a 2 lakh tonnes per annum steel pipe manufacturing unit. This major expansion marks a strategic move to strengthen Jindal’s presence in India's growing steel value chain.

Currently, Jindal (India) operates two production units in West Bengal, equipped with colour coating, galvanizing, and galvalume facilities. Between FY24 and FY25, the company invested ₹1,500 crore to expand these capacities, with project completion expected by FY26.

Additionally, in FY25, Jindal (India) increased its metal beam crash barrier (MBCB) production capacity by 75% to 6,000 tonnes, securing orders worth ₹300 crore from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and Indian Railways.
