Vedanta Powers Odisha's Future with ₹1.28 Lakh Crore Aluminium Hub

The Odisha government has greenlit eight major industrial projects worth a total of ₹1.51 lakh crore, spearheaded by Vedanta Group’s ₹1.28 lakh crore investment in a 3 MTPA aluminium smelter and 4,900 MW captive power plant in Dhenkanal district. Approved by the High-Level Clearance Authority (HLCA) chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, the Vedanta project is poised to generate around 30,000 jobs and significantly bolster Odisha’s position as a global aluminium production hub.

The remaining investments span key sectors such as chemicals, steel, textiles, and downstream metal processing across six districts—Dhenkanal, Ganjam, Jajpur, Keonjhar, Khurda, and Sambalpur—collectively expected to create 30,200 additional employment opportunities.

Notable among these is SRF’s ₹10,000 crore project to establish a specialty chemicals and refrigerant plant in Ganjam, expected to employ 20,000 people. In Dhenkanal, Jindal India Steel will set up a ₹3,600 crore steel processing facility creating 2,000 jobs, while Shyam Steel plans a ₹2,490 crore investment in Keonjhar with 2,370 job openings.

Other approved ventures include Linde India’s ₹1,303.5 crore air separation unit in Jajpur (100 jobs), rolling mills by Star Metal Works in Sambalpur and Supreme Metals in Keonjhar, and a ₹2,055 crore textile manufacturing unit by Sportking India in Khurda.
