Tata Steel Seals 20-Year O&M Deal with Air Water India

Tata Steel has entered into a 20-year operations and maintenance (O&M) agreement with Air Water India Pvt. Ltd. (AWIPL) for its air separation unit (ASU) located in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand.

Currently in the stabilisation phase, the ASU is scheduled to be formally handed over to AWIPL next month. Designed for an output of 1,800 tonnes of oxygen per day, the facility will also produce nitrogen, argon, and dry compressed air to support Tata Steel’s blast furnaces and steel melting shops.

The agreement was signed by Peeyush Gupta, Vice President at Tata Steel, and Kausik Mukhopadhyay, Managing Director of AWIPL. Through this strategic partnership, Tata Steel seeks to leverage AWIPL’s global expertise in cryogenic technology and remote operations, including best practices from its Japanese facilities, to drive operational efficiency and ensure long-term reliability of the ASU.

This collaboration underscores Tata Steel’s commitment to technological excellence and process optimisation in core manufacturing operations.
