The Uttar Pradesh government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has launched a strategic initiative to promote responsible industrial development, integrating rigorous environmental monitoring with the growth of defence corridors and industrial zones.
The Uttar Pradesh Expressway Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) has implemented a comprehensive compliance framework to ensure adherence to environmental norms. As part of this system, NABL-accredited laboratories, certified under the Environmental Protection Act, 1986, will conduct biannual environmental audits. These audits will assess key parameters such as air, water, soil, and noise quality, with findings submitted in prescribed formats and uploaded online to ensure transparency and bolster investor confidence.
This framework currently covers projects under the Defence Industrial Corridor and the Industrial Manufacturing and Logistics Cluster (IMLC). Environmental clearances have already been secured for sites in Aligarh, Kanpur Nagar, Lucknow, Chitrakoot, and Jhansi, where land acquisition and development activities are underway. Sites in Agra and Unnao are in the process of obtaining final clearances.
Audit reports will be submitted to both the State Environmental Impact Assessment Authority (SEIAA) and the Union Ministry of Environment, ensuring regulatory accountability. UPEIDA’s approach is being positioned as a model for sustainable industrial development across Uttar Pradesh’s emerging economic corridors.
