Railways Approves Two Major Projects Worth ₹647.58 Crore

The Ministry of Railways has approved two key infrastructure projects across the Western and Eastern Railway networks, with a combined investment of ₹647.58 crore.

A major component of this approval is the construction of a rail-over-rail (RoR) flyover to support connectivity for the Kosamba–Umrapada gauge conversion section in Gujarat. The 9.20 km stretch is located along the eastern side of the high-density Mumbai–Vadodara main line, which is currently undergoing gauge conversion.

The flyover, estimated at ₹344.38 crore, will enable seamless integration of the converted line with the main corridor. Given the presence of the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) alignment in the area, a conventional at-grade crossing is not feasible. The RoR structure will allow trains to pass over existing tracks safely, ensuring uninterrupted operations and improved traffic safety.

The project is expected to enhance operational efficiency, facilitate smoother train movement, and maximise the benefits of the gauge conversion, thereby strengthening both passenger and freight connectivity on a critical railway corridor.
