A major coastal highway project to boost connectivity in South Gujarat has officially commenced, with a groundbreaking ceremony held on 16 March 2026 at Pardi Jakhri village in Olpad taluka of Surat district.
Estimated to cost around ₹356 crore, the project aims to significantly improve travel between Hazira in Surat and Kantyajal in Bharuch. The proposed highway will stretch approximately 18 km and will be developed as a four-lane coastal road passing through parts of Surat and Bharuch districts. Once completed, it is expected to greatly reduce travel distance and time. Currently, the journey between Hazira and Kantyajal is about 55 km, but the new route will shorten it to roughly 18–20 km.
The highway will pass through several coastal villages in the Olpad region, including Dandi, Mor, Nes, Bhagva, and Pardi Jakhri, enhancing accessibility for these areas.
Overall, the project is set to strengthen regional connectivity, benefit local communities, and support business and transportation activities. The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by local representatives and state highway officials.
