The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has launched the Bengaluru Water Resilience Project in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and IIT Madras, backed by over ₹3,500 crore in World Bank funding.
The project aims to address urban flooding and strengthen long-term water security across the city. Key partners include the BWSSB, Minor Irrigation Department, and the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC).
The initiative will focus on upgrading stormwater drainage systems, promoting rainwater harvesting, developing watersheds, and implementing natural flood mitigation strategies. IISc will update its Urban Flood Model, supported by advanced technological inputs from IIT Madras. WELL Labs and CSTEP will contribute to design and implementation support.
The project will be executed under Bengaluru Smart Infrastructure (BSMILE) and is a key step toward building climate resilience and sustainable urban water management in Bengaluru.
