CM to Open ₹70 Cr Water Lifeline for Shahapur in August

A long-awaited ₹70 crore drinking water project in Shahapur city, Yadgir district, is nearing completion and is set to be inaugurated by Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in August. Executed by the Drinking Water Supply and Sewage Board, the project is designed to meet the drinking water needs of 1.51 lakh residents of Shahapur until 2050.

The water will be sourced from the Bhima River through the Sannati bridge-cum-barrage, then transported via an 18-km pipeline to a filter bed in the city. Water will be distributed to households through taps after being stored in two 15-lakh-litre capacity tanks, constructed in different city zones under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme.

The project will also benefit the nearby villages of Ingalagi and Madnal. According to Sharanabasappa Darshanapur, Minister for Small Scale Industries and district in-charge, the project inspection on June 21 confirmed it is nearly complete, with final testing to be carried out within two weeks.

Several additional development projects are also planned for the taluk, including a ₹16 crore Praja Soudha, a ₹292 crore drainage system, residential schools and hostels for various communities, and improvements to school infrastructure. “These projects will be implemented soon,” the Minister assured.
