The Rajasthan government is preparing a comprehensive five-year action plan to enhance infrastructure and expand access to domestic piped natural gas (DPNG) and compressed natural gas (CNG) across the state.
Principal Secretary (Mines and Petroleum) T Ravikanth, on July 22, 2025, announced that the initiative aligns with the state budget’s clean energy objectives. For the current fiscal year, the government aims to provide DPNG connections to 1.25 lakh households and establish 89 new CNG stations. The upcoming roadmap will also be aligned with national targets set by the Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.
Ravikanth underscored the need for coordinated efforts to support India’s broader energy transition goals. In a meeting with representatives from 13 city gas distribution (CGD) companies, he stressed the importance of strict adherence to safety protocols, particularly for vehicles transporting CNG and PNG.
The state has already introduced a CGD policy to promote green energy and develop a sustainable, gas-based ecosystem. The planned action plan is expected to accelerate the adoption of cleaner fuels and reduce reliance on conventional fossil energy sources.
