A major ₹605-crore drinking water project, aimed at supplying safe and reliable water to over one lakh households across 831 habitations in the Radhapuram and Nanguneri Assembly segments, is on track for commissioning by the end of October, according to Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker M. Appavu.
The project sources water from an infiltration well sunk in the Tamirabharani River at Mela Muneerpallam, which will feed a purification unit at Singikulam, near Kalakkad. To ensure uninterrupted operations, 297 electric poles have been erected to power pumping stations at Mula Muneerpallam.
On 2 September 2025, Speaker Appavu, along with Tirunelveli District Collector R. Sukumar, officials from the TWAD Board, and the project contractor, reviewed progress at the District Collectorate.
The project is designed to serve a population of over three lakh people in Palayamkottai, Cheranmahadevi, Radhapuram, and Nanguneri, enhancing access to clean drinking water in rural and semi-urban areas. It forms part of the Tamil Nadu government’s broader commitment to strengthening water infrastructure and improving public health outcomes.
