Waste to Wonder: Tirupati to Get Six New Waste-to-Energy Plants

Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MAUD) Ponguru Narayana conducted a detailed review of development projects and civic infrastructure at the Tirupati Urban Development Authority (TUDA) office.

Emphasizing swift execution, the Minister directed officials to accelerate both TUDA and municipal-level projects, particularly those related to core infrastructure. TUDA Chairman C. Divakar Reddy and Joint Collector Shubham Bansal presented updates on revenue generation from TUDA assets, while MCT Commissioner N. Mourya briefed on progress in sanitation, roadworks, drainage, and welfare facilities for workers.

Key announcements from the meeting included:

Completion of clearing 73 lakh tonnes of waste, with remaining work to be finished by October 2.

Establishment of six new waste-to-energy plants, with waste management facilities planned for all 123 municipalities.

Under the AMRUT scheme, the government aims to ensure clean drinking water for every household within three years.

Commitment to resolve pending issues related to TDR bonds in Visakhapatnam, Guntur, and Tirupati, and land disputes in Settipalli.

Highlighting Tirupati's urban potential, Minister Narayana reaffirmed support for the Layout Regularisation Scheme (LRS), calling it a catalyst in the city’s transformation into a “Mega City.”
