The Haryana Government is set to launch the ‘Water Secure Haryana’ Programme, a six-year initiative supported by the World Bank with an estimated cost of USD 500 million.
Scheduled to begin in 2026, the program aims to revamp Haryana’s irrigation and water management systems using data-driven and performance-based approaches. Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi described it as a transformative step toward making Haryana India’s first water-secure state by 2032.
Key components of the initiative include:
Modernisation of irrigation infrastructure, Rejuvenation of 80 water bodies, Wastewater reuse for irrigation, Implementation of micro-irrigation systems, Promotion of sustainable agriculture practices
The program will target 14 strategic irrigation clusters across 18 districts, covering a culturable command area (CCA) of 363,546 hectares. Farmer participation will be promoted through Water User Associations (WUAs), ensuring community engagement and effective water resource management.
