AP launch 24 Critical Care Blocks in ₹600 Cr Move to Save Lives

Andhra Pradesh is set to strengthen its emergency healthcare infrastructure with the establishment of Critical Care Blocks (CCBs) in 24 government hospitals, aimed at improving treatment for patients with cardiac, renal, respiratory, and other life-threatening conditions.

By December 2023, 13 CCBs are expected to become operational, while the remaining 11 will be completed by August 2026. Together, these facilities will add 1,275 new beds across the state. Each 50-bed CCB will include 10 ICU beds, six mini-ICU beds, dedicated maternity, isolation, and casualty wards, as well as dialysis facilities.

Developed under the PM Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission, the initiative is part of a national effort to expand critical care capacity and is being executed at a total cost of ₹600 crore. The CCBs will be established in both teaching and district hospitals, addressing the urgent need for robust emergency medical services—an imperative underscored during the COVID-19 pandemic.
