NDMC Powers Up for a Smarter, Greener, and More Vibrant New Delhi

In line with its Smart City mission and the national vision of Viksit Bharat@2047, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has approved a series of impactful projects focused on sustainability, urban infrastructure, flood preparedness, and cultural development.

A major step toward green energy transition includes the procurement of 120 MW of renewable energy from NHPC at ₹4.62 per unit (inclusive of trading margin) under a 25-year agreement. In support of improved utility services, over ₹40 crore has been allocated for modernizing metering infrastructure—₹30.84 crore for deploying more than 15,000 smart water meters and ₹4.56 crore for smart electricity meters—aimed at enabling real-time monitoring and greater transparency for citizens.

To bolster flood management, ₹70.44 crore has been sanctioned for desilting the Sunehari Nullah near Lodhi Road, along with ₹5.20 crore for upgrading drainage maintenance machinery. Public convenience will also be enhanced with ₹4.18 crore allocated for mobile comfort stations during major events.

On the cultural front, NDMC will institutionalize support for arts and heritage by dedicating 1% of its annual budget to cultural initiatives through its Urban Arts and Culture Forum, fostering community engagement and creative expression. Additionally, the council approved several welfare measures for municipal employees.

These initiatives collectively reflect NDMC’s commitment to building a sustainable, efficient, and culturally vibrant urban ecosystem.
