Indian Railways has earmarked ₹1,200 crore for the upgradation of five key railway stations in Nashik in preparation for the upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela. The investment aims to strengthen passenger infrastructure for the mega event while delivering long-term operational benefits.
The proposed upgrades include the construction of new foot overbridges, extension and widening of platforms, addition of loop lines, installation of automatic signalling systems, development of new pit lines, and comprehensive network remodelling to ensure smooth train operations. Divisional Railway Manager Punit Agrawal noted that although certain facilities will be temporary to manage the surge in pilgrim traffic, a significant portion of the infrastructure will be permanent. “A large part of the infrastructure being created is here to stay,” he said.
To streamline operations during the event, special trains from Bhusawal will terminate at Odha, Kasbe-Sukene and Kherwadi stations, while trains from Mumbai will conclude their journey at Devlali station. The works are being undertaken on a war footing to ensure full readiness ahead of the Kumbh Mela.
